I actually won something!

In reality, James won me something. James has been entering us in the contest on Papa John's website trying to win a new Ford Mustang. Before getting too excited, I will let you know that I did not win the car. There is still much excitement- I get 50 free downloads on Musicmatch.

Here is the dilemma- I love music and when I hear things on the radio that are good, I think "I would like to have that song". When I get onto Musicmatch to find music- I can't think of anything! I think about CDs that I already have or things that I like but I know that there is other music that I like better out there.

What is a girl to do!?!

The correct answer is ask her blogger friends. What recommendations do you all have for what I should download? I don't like country and I hear enough "dirty south"/"gangsta" rap from the cars blaring it from the gas station across the street from us. Other than that, I am pretty open.

Thanks!

Well, since we don't know each other, I'm not sure my opinion amounts to much, but the new Beck album was really great for days when you want to move the ol' bod a bit. I also discovered an amazing song galled The Son's Gonna Rise by Citizen Cope featuring Santana (yeah, it's spelled Son, not Sun). And there's always room for Joss Stone or Modest Mouse.

Let's Get it Started by Black Eyed Peas

Best of You by Foo Fighters (have you heard this song? i LOVE it and can't so much explain why!)

We have the Grits CD (it=good). I still remember listening to Tennessee playing on the stereo in your truck just a few days before we were getting ready to leave Portland.

I like "Best of You" too, but the video freaks me out - that guy is NOT TV pretty. You would think that would make him avoid a super-extreme-close-up . . . nope.

(breanna - i'm surprised that you'd recommend "let's get it started," since the original lyrics were "let's get retarded," making fun of the spastic movements of some of the mentally disabled. but, i'm sure you didn't know that, hardly anyone does...

p.s. i hate the black eyed peas. esp since i know that fergie used to look like this.

Kara- any friend of the mouse is a friend of mine.

Breanna & Rebecca Marie- You both have awesome taste in music and your recommendations are definitely being poured into the mix.

I heart Damien Rice.

You also need some Jack Johnson in there.

I concur with Breanna about Eva Cassidy's cover of Songbird. I rarely like the cover (especially of a classic group like Fleetwood Mac) but she definately has a great take on it!

RM-I absolutely did NOT know that!! and since i am consistent and will not compromise on my hatred of that word, i'm not only going to NOT buy the cd, but i'm going to erase it from my cell phone ringer, even though i JUST bought it. thanks for informing me.

this is great...lots of good reccommendations for music. NICE!

yeah, most people don't know that, sick, eh?

and andrea, don't be swayed by breanna, rebecca or i, but you should check out all of your options on songbird (or get all three!) before deciding on just one:
fleetwood mac, eva cassidy, or denison witmer (i walked down the aisle to his version, that's why i prefer it, but i'm not going to force you to prefer it just because i do--that would be oh so republican of me).

good luck with your choices!

These are all such wonderful suggestions! Dang, you people and your good suggestions. Now I am going to end up falling into their trap of giving me "free" music just so that I'll want more and spend money for it.

The first one is always free.
